Dell Laptop Explodes in a Conference
ADVERTISEMENTS
A Dell laptop exploded in a conference which was held in Japan. The laptop had exploded because of overheating problem. You can refer to my earlier post in which an Apple ibook burst into flames due to overheating. Going by such incidents all I can say is never use a laptop on your lap as you never know when it is going explode or burst into flames. Hope the laptop industry addresses the overheating issues at the earliest.

Really man , these things are becoming a lot common these days . Now every time i use a laptop a fear will always be there .
When we have not solved the overheating problems of the present generation Lithium Ion batteries then how are we going to have fuel cell powered laptops.
Can a battery get overheated in a A.C room? (by the way A.C to japan is like kaitan to indians).
Even in the presence of A.C. batteries inside laptop gets overheated as they are used… Pls be careful when you use your laptop….
Avoid putting the laptop…on your lap
Techz: I think you have to be careful in using laptops in your place as it is a very hot place….
Thanks God, so far i dont have Dell laptop. To avoid this accident use fan pad to cooling your laptop heat.
@Blue Ray: It can happen to any laptop irrespective of brand.. Today it is Dell and Apple and it can be some other tommorrow. As you said may be by using the cooling pad we can reduce the risk of overheating. And Welcome to my Blog Bluray
[...] Dell has asked US Consumer Product Safety Commission for assistance in finding out the root cause for the recent laptop explosion which occurred in a Japanese conference. We replaced the customer’s computer and are still investigating the cause. We think it was a fault in a lithium ion battery cell. Dell’s engineering teams are working with the Consumer Product Safety Commission and a third-party failure analysis lab to determine the root cause of this failure and to ensure we take all appropriate measures to help prevent a recurrence. By the way, lithium ion batteries are used in billions of notebooks, mp3 players, PDAs and cell phones these days. [...]
Hi shivaranjan! What do you think would be the impact of this issue to all consumers? Is it true that dell has been sabotage?or it really just a failure for Dell? I am so confused actually.
I feel all Dell customers should be more careful. Actually if you see this overheating of laptops, the fact is that it is faced by Dell alone it is faced by Apple also and moreover manufacturers should think of some better Battery technologies which do not generate heat and are more eco-friendly…
[...] Dell hit the news recently for their exploding laptops and now they are recalling nearly 4.1 million Laptop batteries from the market. The batteries which are being recalled are made my Sony Corp. and this is the largest recall ever made by Dell. [...]
[...] A Dell laptop exploded in Santa Clara at Yahoo’s research center and there by causing evacuation of the building. The burnt up laptop looks like it belongs to Dell Inspiron series. Many airlines have already banned usage of Dell laptops in battery mode inside the aircraft. I once again ask my friends who are using laptops to be alert and take ample precautions. [...]
