Portforwarding Airtel 220BX Router

ADVERTISEMENTS

In this post I will explain about, how to forward ports in Beetel 220bx router which is provided these days along with Airtel broadband connection. The procedure is only applicable for Beetel 220bx router. The screenshots which are posted here are self explanatory.

Open your browser (preferably Opera or Firefox). Type the address which is provided below in the address bar of your browser.

http://192.168.1.1/main.html (This link takes you to advanced option menu.)

Do not enter http://192.168.1.1/index.html as this will take you to basic options menu and you will not be able to enter advanced setup from here.

When enter the above address you will be asked username and password, the default username and password is given below.

username: admin

Password: password

If you are not able to enter the modem’s configuration page using the above password you can call the airtel customer care regarding that.

Now you should be seeing the screen mentioned below:

Now click the Advance Setup button on the left sidebar of the screen. (Refer the above screenshot)

After this you should be getting this screen:

Now click the NAT button on the left sidebar of the screen (refer the above screenshot).

Click the Add button in the screen which you get after doing the above step.

In the Add port screen you have to enter the following data:

1. Select Service: Do not enter anything here.

2. Custom Service: Enter a description for your port. (For Identification Purpose)

3. Server IP Address: Usually 192.168.1.2 (Your Lan’s IP Address)

In the table which is after these fields fill the following data in the respective columns:

1. External Port Start: Enter the port number which you would like to forward

2. External Port End: Enter the port number which you entered in the first column.

For example if you want to ports 42963 to 42968 then you have to fill the start number as 42963 and ending number as 42968

3. Protocol: Make sure that it is set to TCP/UDP

4. Internal Port Start and End: Do not enter anything here.

Now if you are getting the screen which is shown below then you are almost done.

Here all the portforwarded ports are listed.

In the final step you should save and reboot the modem as shown in the screenshot below.

That’s all now your ports are successfully portforwarded.

If you want increase in speeds of your torrents in uTorrent read this article.

This is my first tutorial and I have tried to explain portforwarding of Airtel 220BX router in as simple way as possible.

  1. Why dont you try UPnP? Azureus creates a port for itself using that I think.

  2. I tried that but in my case until I portforwarded the speeds were terrible…

  3. Hii Shivaranjan… i tried everything u said but i was not able even to ping the wan ip of my connection from internet. After that i set up modem in bridged mode and configured service connection from the winxp PPOE. i was able to connect to ISP and browsed successfully but still the wan ip is not accessible to internet…. i think the ports are blocked by ISP itself. Please reply back.. my isp is airtel-bangalore…

    TIA..

  4. Which port did you try to portforward?

  5. i tried 10 through 81 except 80…… (external/internal)

  6. Are you trying to portforward your port for using your torrent client? if you want to portforward for torrent client then it is better that you portforward a port number more than 9999.

  7. no, i acually wanted see my apache page at home to be accessible to my office, for that purpose only i had opted DSL internet. atleast i should be able to ping the wan ip i.e. currently on PPP0e session in my home pc…..

  8. I am using windows XP SP1.. I can’t open 192.168.1.1/main.html page…I tried both in firefox and IE…Any suggestions?

  9. Did you type in the url correctly? I have tried this in firefox, IE and opera it works fine for me.

  10. check ur lan ip address. if ur lan ip address is 192.168.1.n (n=2 to 254) then start command prompt in windows n ping 192.168.1.1. if it replies back then u can type same ip address as url for accessing modem configuration page. in my case it is http://192.168.1.1/main.html (http://192.168.1.1/index.html for standard config.) please check ur lan ip first.. and reply back whether this helps or not.

  11. Thanks very much
It worked very well. Now i am not facing any nat problems.

  12. Hey! Hello

I have unlimited 699 plan of Airtel with Broadband/DSL @ Delhi.

Same mOdem. I would like to make my computer a SERVER and host a website on my home computer itself.

I want to be a HOST myself, how can I do it?

I heard port forwarding may be helpful. How can I set my computer as a WEBSERVER and give people an IP to access my “LOCALHOST” a www for them.

    Please refer : http://www.dslwebserver.com/

Is it gonna happen, please help if ya can!

I know we are DYNAMIC IPs.
I am bit confused..Gimme a way out please.

    Thanks
    IM Y! @ sinkg2002
    Byee…

  13. I have home 999 unlimited plan.
after forwarding my ports i got download speeds averagin 27kbps
noe i only get 12-17 kbps
    i use utorrent
    plz help

  14. Dynamic IP, no issue,

Even then you can have your own domain name to host a website at home.

Log into http://www.no-ip.com/, register a your domain name (free again), download their software and install it. When ever you reconnect, the new ip address is updated to your domain name automatically.

    Enjoy hosting you site

  15. Hi,

First thanks to Mr.Raj Kumar T jee !!

I got the Dynamic IP changed to static via…no-ip.org domain name and their software.

But my server (my computer) is yet not fully up as a server.

I installed Abyss (x1 latest demo) and when I enter the .no-ip.org address, it shows up the Router config or password box, instead of showing the webpage set in Abyss server.

I can see Localhost and 127.0.0.1 …but how do I configure the server to host or show…my New Domain @ no-ip. Without being asked for password and a home page.

May be server software has limitation in demo for hosting another Virtual host, as it says.

What to do next? I have Apache ready..should I install it and how about configuring it to Mynew Domain or show up My Computer on the Internet

Tell Me ! May be Mr.ShivaRanjan too can help.

    Thanks,
    Kapil

  16. Acutally I have no idea on setting up a webserver from home. The main idea of this article was to educate or tell people how to portforward their routers so that they can achieve the max speed from their connection for torrent related downloads.

You can discuss about setting up a webserver here but I am not an expert in this subject. :)

  17. ShivaRanjan,

Thanks for your Concern. Anyways, Its all over now…I did it and have made my computer a Host or Server on Dynamic IP.

Its working now. I port forwarded port 80 (HTTP Server) to my Internal IP 192.168.1.2 (may be it was there earlier too).

If my computer is started, you can actually see my Computer with some default page.

Actually, when I typed my domain name, it was pointing to the Router (192.168.1.2), but when I type the domain name from a PROXY Site, its working that means, others can see my computer very well.

    Thanks Buddy! for your concern.
    Bye!

  18. Interesting! Could someone please tell me if ports can also be restricted or closed? For example, would i be able to close ports 80 or any other port is choose! Thanks!

  19. Yes, they can be by firewall automatically.

  20. Hey thanks a lot! I can’t reach 192.168.1.1! Any of you guys having the same problem?

  21. Shiv,

Nice and very useful article but you must also mention the kind of network this tehnique is useful for, e.g, do I need a static IP or DHCP is good enough?

    Regards
    Amit

  24. Hi Shiv

I have Beetel 220Bx modem and DLink Wireless Router F/W Ver 2.02. The modem is connected in Bridge mode. Shiv, can you tell me how I can do port forwarding for Utorrent clinet for DLink Router. I am in 999 plan in Airtel for 256 Kbps speed (always on). What speed increase can I expect after port fowarding.

    Thanks in advance

  25. I am not a techie.. but i tried this.

a frnd of mine uses an airtel broadband connection.
I found his ip address from email message headers and opened a telnet connection to it.

okie… i brute forced the password … used ADMIN and PASSWORD and got authenticated.

i was taken to the routers general options. I did not know what to do with them.

my objective is to remotely access his hard drive…

    The routers general options said…
    DHCP ENABLED
    Lease Period 24 hours
(along with many other things… OPTIONA WERE LIKE wan, link status, arp .. blah blah… i have herd these terms but dunno wat they mean.)

does it mean he gets a new ip address every time he logs on ?

How do i go about it.???

Sorry, I know i am not suposed to post this here but i thought some1 could help…

    hi
i only want to say thankksssssssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  27. @S Laxman - Since your modem is in bridge mode, You’ll need to configure port forwarding on the D-Link router.
You can check out my comment on my own article on this
    http://sanjaygoel.blogspot.com/2006/12/setting-up-wireless-router-with-airtel.html#comment-1191479179507241064

You can ask on my blog http://sanjaygoel.blogspot.com/2007/06/port-forwarding-in-airtel-modem.html if you need help specifically for D-Link

  28. @kapil: pretty interesting. I had the same problem, and found out after a lot of painful tinkering that the damn thing is actually accessible from external IPs. My guess is that the modem dumps any request that comes through the local line to the 192.168.1.1 (local) interface irrespective of whether you are trying to access the WAN IP or the LAN IP. Any request from outside obviously comes through the external line and is consequently forwarded properly.

@varun: Forget it, dude. Unless your friend is running a telnet server (and you manage to get the login info) or something that offers a potential security hole, it is not possible. You need to have access to his machine and start some service on his machine that allows access to his drive.

  29. Hi Shivaranjan, I used the portforwarding method you’ve illustrated here and it worked for me. It was so simple following your illustration. I also wanted to know if you can help me setup a static ip on airtel broadband. I have beetel 220BX modem.

  30. hi, I am using airtel mobile office to connect to the internet but the problem is i could not download from some applications like bittorrent because it shows NAT firewall or DHT firewall, how to configure it to forward ports through them. i have tried to enter the address you showed http://192.168.1.1/main.html but it does not enter it. plz reply me fast i have to pay 15 RS per day and it takes too much time to download. plz reply me at this add : zuber_d_85@yahoo.co.uk
