Plextor to Introduce Plexeraser Optical Media Eraser
Plextor will soon launch a Optical Media Eraser which will erase the data present in the CD or DVD media. The time taken to erase a disc is estimated to be around 6 minutes. As of now the pricing of this product is not yet known.
But Plextor currently bundles a software utility with their burners called plexeraser which erases the disc’s by overwriting the lead-in and the data sectors of the disc which in turn makes the disc useless.
I hope that this drive will also erase in same way as mentioned above, but I expect that there would some additional features built to this drive.
I personally will never buy this product as I feel that breaking the optical media is the best way to do so.

Is NeroSmart erase disc different from Plextor? How about re-writable CD’s or DVD’s?
The Nero Erase disc is only applicable for rewritable CD or DVD. This drive from plextor can erase your CD-R’s and DVD-R’s i.e. write once disc’s which cannot be erased by Nero.
Breaking the disc isnt really secure, data can still be extracted from it, but ofcourse we arent 007’s (maybe you :P) to possess such valuable data that may change the world. I personally recommend throwing it into the sewage or cooum, even our indian intelligence wont dare to go there.
