Lite-ON 20x DVD Burners by Q4 2006

CDRinfo reports, Lite-ON IT the optical drive giant is expected to launch its 20x (around 26MBps) capable DVD burners in the fourth quarter of 2006. The new drives will burn down an entire 4.7 GB of data in approximately 3mins.

I feel Lite-ON is launching this product to counter Plextor 18x DVD burners which were out some time back.

  1. Shiva , i have a problem . I have a Sony DVD Writer which i purchased recently . It was burning DVD’s in around 7 -10 mins . But suddenly it is taking 40 minustes to burn them , what could be the problem .

  2. I have been having a Lite-on Combo Drive for about 1 year now. It gave me no problems so far and I am quite happy with it. But I wish I had bought a DVD writer :-(

  3. Check whether the DMA for the drive is enabled. At what speeds are you burning and what media are you using?

    John you buy DVD burner now as it is very cheap. Many DVD burners are available for around Rs. 2,200 in Chennai.

  4. I burned at 8x and 16x but the result was same and i even used DVD’s of diffrent company’s . And dma is not enabled .

  7. Madhur refer to the link below to enable dma in your machine. If you enable DMA your drives performance will increase.

  8. At my place they may charge Rs 3000 or so. And we can’t bargain like in Chennai :-(

  9. I don’t have this DMA option for my Hard Disks or CD-Rom or DVD drives. What’s the problem?

  10. To get the BEST burn on any media, 4x is the recommended speed, 8x is still “ok”. 20x you’d need some heavy duty media, and the laser gets such a short time to burn the data, there will definately be errors over time.

  11. Shiva , I am unable to enable DMA for this drive . Even tried the registry hack thing and even uninstalled the IDE drivers .

    please help .

    You might been disable DMA in BIOS setting refer to your motherboard manual for the setting …

  13. Hi Madhur see whether this helps.

    Are you using 40 pin or 80 pin cable? If you are using 40 pin then use an 80 pin. As suggested by Imtiaz check the settings in the Bios and give the details.

    For repeated DMA errors. Windows XP will turn off DMA mode for a device after encountering certain errors during data transfer operations. If more that six DMA transfer timeouts occur, Windows will turn off DMA and use only PIO mode on that device.

    In this case, the user cannot turn on DMA for this device. The only option for the user who wants to enable DMA mode is to uninstall and reinstall the device.

    Windows XP downgrades the Ultra DMA transfer mode after receiving more than six CRC errors. Whenever possible, the operating system will step down one UDMA mode at a time (from UDMA mode 4 to UDMA mode 3, and so on).

    If the mini-IDE driver for the device does not support stepping down transfer modes, or if the device is running UDMA mode 0, Windows XP will step down to PIO mode after encountering six or more CRC errors. In this case, a system reboot should restore the original DMA mode settings.

    All CRC and timeout errors are logged in the system event log. These types of errors could be caused by improper mounting or improper cabling (for example, 40-pin instead of 80-pin cable). Or such errors could indicate imminent hardware failure, for example, in a hard drive or chipset.

  14. I don’t have a DVD-writer but have only a combo drive. Think it will take time for me to buy because I really don’t need it now.

    i have a problem with my liteon dvd writer 20 x…….that is …..
    my writer reads a dvd but not writing ……is this a software problem or writer problem…….
    iam using nero 7 ..
