Irish Company Claims Creation of Perpetual Motion Machine
Steorn an Irish company claims that it has developed a technology which is based on the interaction of magnetic fields and produces free, clean and constant energy. In simple words they claim they have built perpetual motion machine-1 which produces energy more than it uses and perpetual motion machine-1 is impossible to create.
As a Mechanical Engineer I can say that this is impossible as it violates the First Law of Thermodynamics which is based on principle of conservation of energy.
What is the First Law of Thermodynamics:
The increase in the internal energy of a thermodynamic system is equal to the amount of heat energy added to the system minus the work done by the system on the surroundings.
Principle of Conservation of Energy:
Energy can neither be created nor destroyed, it can only change from one form to another form.
Going by the above laws we can conclude that this controversial machine actually is impossible to build. If the Irish companie’s claim is really true i.e if the machine built by them is really a perpetual motion machine then the whole understanding of our universe becomes questionable.
If you have any questions regarding these laws you can contact my friend Srinivasa Ramanujam who is a researcher with ISRO on Heat and Mass Transfer.
Below is the photograph of the controversial machine:

Well, I myself has to go through the article to find the bug (which certainly is there). Its unfortunate that instead of working on scientific principles, people are going for publicity with hoax statements. It happens in every field and science is no different!
Ramanujam Pls clarify the doubts if somebody asks about heat transfer as you are expert in this field.
