Fried Up Maxtor Hard Disk

A Maxtor 200GB SATA drive got burnt when Dracos switched on his computer. Going by the sequence of events that happened with Dracos and the magnitude of the damage to his hard disk, I can say that there is some problem with his power supply or his power supply got overloaded.
I have come across such a situation in the past, where my friends hard disk got fried up (not to this extent) when his power supply got overloaded. I want to conclude that when ever you buy a power supply for computer always buy good branded product and see to that it has ample wattage to support your computer’s load.

You know,together with a hard drive(i already have a maxthor) and a memory i also want to get a new power suply.Now i am confused.
Any recommendation for it?
Welcome to my Blog Carol. Buy a good quality 500w power supply that will be enough for mid-highend systems of today. Well what is the config of your computer.

The one i have now is quiet and keeps it all cool and it has been good to me,but is time to pamper a bit the computer.
Then for that configuration go for a antec 500w power supply which is more than sufficient for you configuration.
It is sufficient for the whole upgrade?
