Pioneer to Introduce Dual Format HD DVD / Blu-ray Combo Drive

ADVERTISEMENTS

Update: According to Pioneer they don’t have any plans to introduce a dual format combo drives. Read more here.

Since no one can see an end to the present HD DVD and Blu-ray format war, Pioneer is set to introduce BDR-103 dual format combo drive which will support HD DVD as well as Blu-ray medias. The plans about these drives were revealed at IFA 2006. I think in the future only hybrid combo drives like these would become mainstream products.

A few years back a similar format war existed between DVD+R and DVD-R and dual format drive clearly solved this format war, I hope something similar happens to the present HD DVD and Blu-ray format war. So folks let us wait until the dual format drives become mainstream.
