Apple Mac Pro Running with 8 Cores Using Two Clovertown Cores
Anandtech has put an article in which they have described the procedures for upgrading Apple Mac pro’s CPU and test running of Windows XP on Mac Pro. The most interesting detail in the article is that Anandtech guys have put a pair of Clovertown cores (quad core successor to woodcrest) and demonstrated that Mac pro can be run with 8 physical processing cores. ![]()

Cpu Monitor of Mac OS X showing Eight Physical Cores

Anandtech’s Description on the 8 Core Mac Pro:
Later this year Intel will be introducing pin compatible upgrades to its Core 2 and Xeon lines, except instead of two cores these processors will feature four. Codenamed Kenstfield (Core 2) and Clovertown (Xeon), Intel’s new quad-core processors will dramatically increase the amount of processing power you can have in a single system. Given that the Mac Pro features two LGA-771 sockets, you could theoretically drop two Clovertown processors in there and you’d have an 8-core Mac Pro.
Without a doubt Apple will release a quad-core version of the Mac Pro, either by the end of this year or early next year, but are users who buy the Mac Pro today missing out? While we’re still a couple of months away from being able to test a retail Clovertown CPU in the Mac Pro, we wanted to see if the current engineering samples of the chip would work.
I wish if I could lay my hands over those processors, I didn’t expect my dual core machine to become obsolete so soon.

8 processors !? Man that is enough to decode human’s dna within weeks! (Currently, it takes months or even years to decode human’s dna structure!). I think now the revolution in processor speeds are because of advance in bio technology field.
I’m thinking 4way 8core system, mmmm all that processing powrer..
@TechZ: Is that enough dude
Hey the hyperlink in the last one is incorrect. I accidentally pressed “enter” key before typing it fully
