How to Find and Change Windows Product Key and Registration Information

Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder is freeware utility by which you can you do the following:

  1. Find your Windows 95, 98, ME, NT4, 2000, XP, Server 2003, Windows Vista product keys.
  2. Find your Windows 95, 98, ME, NT4, 2000, XP, Server 2003, Windows Vista registration information.
  3. Change your Windows 95, 98, ME, and XP product key. (Windows 2000, 2003, NT4 and Vista supported)
  4. Change your windows registration information.
  5. Find your Microsoft Office 97, Office XP, and Office 2003 installation key. (Office 2000 not supported).

The screenshots provided below illustrate the process of changing your windows product key and registration information.


Is this software legal?
Yes this legal because Microsoft itself has knowledge base article which describes how to change your windows key and provides the script for this process. This freeware utility utilizes those scripts.

  7. Welcome Sasi, you cannot change your windows 2003 key with this utility but you can retrieve your key for windows 2003. :)

  11. It’s a great tool, but the best thing to do is write down all your keys and keep them in a safe place.

  40. I have a hdd with 2003 SBS installed on it but the machine it was originally installed on is long gone. I can’t get it to boot up on any of the current machines I have now. Is there a way to extract the product key so I can install it on another computer. I have the install CD’s Thanks.

    I have Windows XP SP2 (”General Public Serial Number”) installed.
    Now I have a god legal Serial Number.

    The Magic Bean 1.51 ONLY can display the exist Serial Number.

    But it cannot CHANGE to the new LEGAL one.

    Would u give enlightment to me or any link out there???

  43. Is there a way to extract the serial number for Windows XP without booting into Windows? I have a PC on which Windows XP is broken. The COA/serial is not currently to hand, not sure where it is, and as I cannot boot into windows I cannot use a utility like the one suggested. I can boot the PC using a Linux Live CD, so I can gain access to all the files on the hard disk.

    So is there a similar tool that can run in Linux to reveal the XP serial number?

    I need to reformat the hard disk and reinstall XP, so I need to find the right serial number.

    Thanx for this great tool. But I guess I’m stuck with some error msg.

    I’m using WinXP Home Edition with SP2.

    After the installation it bring an error msg saying,
    “NOT ABLE TO FIND XPKEY.TXT”

    How can I resolve this.

  46. I have fomatted my system and i hav lost the Product key. I have the cd but dont have cd key how can i get cd key from Windows Xp Professional Cd???

  47. You can’t get it anymore if you didn’t saved it first.
    All you can do now is buy another key.

  48. Just for the record, I would like to tell you that you can change Windows Vista’s key with the next command line: slmgr.vbs -ipk {product key}

  49. In order to resolve non-genuine licensing issues, please visit: http://www.microsoft.com/genuine and click on “Validate Windows”. When validation fails, you’ll see a button to click on “Get Genuine” which will provide information on your options which include how to acquire a WGA Kit.
