How to Create ISO File From Folders and CD / DVD
The aim of this post is to know, how to create an ISO file from a folder or CD/DVD. To do this all we need two freeware softwares they are Folder2ISO and LC ISO creator. This post was written after an anonymous reader sent a request to me for a tutorial with step by step instructions to create a ISO file from folders and CD/DVD.
Folder2ISO: To create ISO image from Folders
Folder2Iso is a freeware tool which creates an iso from any kind of folder (including the subfolders). One of the main advantage is that there is no need to install this program, just download this program and run it.
How to use Folder2ISO:
Step 1: Run the Folder2ISO program
Step 2: Use the folder browser to locate the folder which you want to convert.
Step 3: Now select the destination folder where you want to save your ISO file.
Step 4: If you want give a label to the ISO file which you are going to create.
Step 5: Now go on and generate your ISO file from your folder.

Get Folder2ISO from your here.
LC ISO Creator: To create ISO Image from CD/DVD
LC ISO Creator is a freeware tool which is used to create ISO image files from CD/DVD. It also has got the same advantage which Folder2ISO has you need not install this.
How to use LC ISO Creator:
Step 1: Run the LC ISO Creator
Step 2: Select the drive from you which you want to create the ISO file.
Step 3: Now when you hit the create iso button you would be asked to save the file, select the directory where you want to save the file.
Step 4: Now your ISO file will be created in no time. (Depends on your drive speed)

Great ! was not aware of a free tool !
Although I rarely create ISO files regularly.. however I do map them as drives using poweriso
Is there a free tool for this ?
Also one more thought came to my mind as I was typing, Is writing an ISO to a disk faster than writing the individual files ?
You can use Daemon Tools.
If your cd burner or dvd burner came bundled with Nero then you can use Nero Imagedrive also. But I prefer Daemon Tools over Nero Image drive.
I have seen marginal increase in writing speeds by using ISO file because while burning the data ISO file is considered as a single big chunk of data. During assorted writing as you mentioned the files have to read each time which increases your hard disk drives access times there by slowing down the writing speed.
I usually use ISO files only to copy or backup my CD/DVD.
Neat, I’ve on occasion wanted to turn a folder hierarchy into an ISO. For imaging a disc I’ve been using Alex Feinman’s excellent ISO Recorder, http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/ which integrates into the Explorer context menu.
Welcome to my blog Mosh.
Thanks for letting me know about the ISO recorder from alexfeinman, I tried it and it is a great tool.

Hi,
I have folder with ret files ret-name.r00 to ret-name.r15, ret-name.sfv, ret-name.nfo and a RER file ret-name.rar. The RAR file has an ISO file ret-name.iso in it, I have exrtracted the ISO and burnt it to disc using Imgburn. Unfortunately the cd does not work.
Please explain how I can make a new ISO from the files included.

Thanx a bunch dude good stuff….i just cleared 30gigs of info off my system
You can do the same things much easier and faster in linux !
CREATE AN ISO FROM A CD :
# dd if=/dev/cdrom of=isofilefromcd.iso
Then wait.
The created file is called isofilefromcd.iso
CREATE AN ISO FROM A DIRECTORY :
Let’s say directory is called MyDataStuff
# mkisofs -o isofilefromdirectory.iso MyDataStuff
Wait.
The created file is called isofilefromdirectory.iso
Folder2ISO! Awesome! Thanks very much.
I was able to create an .iso file using a bootable OS cdrom. But the .iso file does not seem to be usable:
when poweron the VM which mounted the .iso file, it complains that no bootable cdrom were found.
Pls help – thx.
download a non-windows dos image file from bootdisk.com
load it into the VM floppy
get the A;/ prompt
then load your cd iso image
Small tools -I just love them! Thanks for the suggestions here!
Umm… Problem with Folder2Iso … It seems that it does not allow you to convert folders that have big ass files in them… so if i have a 3 gb file, it throws it out :S
Hi. I have downloaded some linux OS but my prob is, they won’t run, I am stuck with the Caldera DOS DR with A:/> blinking in front of me. I don’t know what to type. I think that I had not burned it properly or I extracted the ISO files then burned it to a bootable CD using Nero. What is the proper way of burning the iso files to make it run on start up?
thanx m8…was kind of lookin 4 this to burn my Vista OS..
Thank you very much for this man. You be the best!
thanks for posting about great tool..
I was not aware of that one.

Hi there!
I’ve been going thru so many forums trying to find an answer to my dilemma. I wonder if you can help me?
I create my own dvds from home videos but the problem I have is when I burn the files onto a DVD disc I can only fit an hour and 10 minutes into a 4.7GB blank disc. Is there a way I can fit at least two hours worth of footage onto the disc?
Can I do this by turning the DVD files I’ve created into ISO and then burning them onto the disc?
If you can help it would save me so many discs.
