  1. Great ! was not aware of a free tool !

Although I rarely create ISO files regularly.. however I do map them as drives using poweriso

Is there a free tool for this ?

Also one more thought came to my mind as I was typing, Is writing an ISO to a disk faster than writing the individual files ?

  2. You can use Daemon Tools.
If your cd burner or dvd burner came bundled with Nero then you can use Nero Imagedrive also. But I prefer Daemon Tools over Nero Image drive.

I have seen marginal increase in writing speeds by using ISO file because while burning the data ISO file is considered as a single big chunk of data. During assorted writing as you mentioned the files have to read each time which increases your hard disk drives access times there by slowing down the writing speed.

I usually use ISO files only to copy or backup my CD/DVD.

  3. Neat, I’ve on occasion wanted to turn a folder hierarchy into an ISO. For imaging a disc I’ve been using Alex Feinman’s excellent ISO Recorder, http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/ which integrates into the Explorer context menu.

  4. Welcome to my blog Mosh. :)
Thanks for letting me know about the ISO recorder from alexfeinman, I tried it and it is a great tool. :)
