Windows Vista: How to Disable Security Center Notifications
Windows Vista Security Center monitors the following security components for Windows:
- Firewall
- Automatic Updates
- Antivirus Status
- Antispyware and Malware Software Status
- User Account Control (UAC) Status
If any of the above has got any problem or issue the Windows Vista security center alerts by popup notifications and that gets very annoying sometimes, which keeps telling you to “Check your security settings”.

How to disable Windows Vista security center popup notifications?
1. Access security center from Windows Vista control panel using the path Start>Settings>Control Panel>Security Center.
2. Now select “Change the way security center alerts me” from the left side bar. Refer to the screen shot below.
3. Now select the third option in the window that says “Don’t notify me and don’t display icon”. Refer to the screen shot below.

4. Once you have done this, Windows Vista security center will not popup those annoying notifications.
Warning: This is not recommended from the security point of view. Don’t use this if you are not aware of the implications of this change.

Unfortunatly the solution you published and which is given in many other websites for stopping the Security Centre constantly popping up … does not remove the icon and it only partially stops the anoying pop-ups. I have tried it on 4 different Vista systems and it does not work on any of them …. not completely anyway. It still pops up from time to time … usually at the worst moment blocking what you are doing! I also tried a Xdn tweak but that also did not work.

Richard-
This solution does work for me and I have also tried in many vista systems. Can you send some screenshots and some more detailed description so that I can check what problem are you facing?
First of all thanks for your prompt reply. I really do not know what details I can give you. The icon is not there when I boot up but sometime later it pops up with it the anoying flag. There does not seem any particular time or reason for when the icon pops up with the flag. When it does I right click on the icon and remove it. That may than leave me in peace for the remainder of the time, or it may pop up again. As yet I have not found any patern.

I forgot to mention that I am using a HP Pavilion 9575 with pre-installed Vista Premium.
It just popped up again and I took a screen shot of it. How do I send that?
Good tip. Now, I’d like to know how to disable that annoying security popup on any Web mail browser (I use Eartlink) that says that this page contains both secure and non-secure items (which is manifestly BS)and do you want to display the non-secure items.
If you can tell me how to disable this annoying little sucker, I’ll buy you a six pack of Sam Adams. ( 8 >
