Server with 128GB RAM and 8 Dual Core AMD Opterons

Xenon Systems has built a server with 8 Dual Core AMD Opterons clocking at 2.8Ghz and 128GB RAM (yes you heard it right it is 128GB not 128MB) for Monash Cluster Computing. This server is used for running large finite element simulations of the Earth’s surface and interior with 10-100 million unknowns on the grid, and an equally large number of moving particles which track the history of deformation.

Now I would really like this monstrous machine to be my workstation.

  1. Initially I read it as 128MB. :D and was thinking whats so special about it. :D

  2. I had some experience working with HP DL585. It had four Dual Core Opteron CPUs. What I loved was that each cpu had a seperate motherboard and you could just remove any of them and the system would work just fine.

Oh yeah, it also had 128GB RAM!

  3. The Dell Precision t7400 is better. 2 3.16 Xeon (8 core) processors, 128 GB RAm and 4 1.5 GB Graphics cards. The 128 GB RAM is in 8 GB moduels and the PC is the size of a regualr desktop- it s a desktop.
