Windows Tip: How to Defragment a File or Folder
The aim of this post is to let you know how to defragment a file or folder. You would have noticed that how painful it is defragment a voluminous hard disk drive as it may take lot of your time and sometimes you may have a situation such that you may want to defragment only a few large folders or files.
How to defragment a file or folder?
1. Firstly go and download Wincontig freeware from Snapfiles.com (Mirror)
2. After you have downloaded, unzip the files in a directory of your choice and launch the program.
3. Once the program gets launched go to file menu and select the files or folder of your choice. (refer to the screenshot below, click to enlarge)
4. Now analyze the file or folder, after you have added them. Now start the defragmentation process by clicking the Defrag button.

5. The defragmentation process would finish based on the size of your file or folder. Once the defragmentation process is completed now you should see a report that gives you the details on the files that were defragmented.

I personally recommend Diskeeper pro for automatic defragging of the drives. It is not freeware like Wincontig you have described in the article, but definitely worth the price if you want a complete no-bother solution for defragging. The cool thing about Diskeeper is that once you enable the auto defrag for your partitions, it defrags them -automatically- only when necessary and only when it finds idle system cycles. So it does the job beautifully without obstructing your running programs. No more worries about manual defrags or not finding the time to defrag

Diskeeper is very good piece of software. I use wincontig for defraging a file or folder before I burn a DVD as my drive burns at 18x. If that file or folder is not defragmented then the drive does not attain its maximum speed. For that reason it makes lot of sense to use wincontig.
