How to Disable Automatic Update in Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Acrobat 3D and Adobe Reader using Registry
All the adobe products these days come with auto update feature, if you want to disable the auto update feature of Adobe Reader, Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Acrobat 3D then you need to access the update tool preferences. This update tool preferences will work only if you have an active Internet connection.
Adobe Reader, Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Acrobat 3D can be prevented from updating using a simple registry entry in your windows.
1. Copy the code that is given below into notepad and save it with extension *.reg
For Adobe Reader 7.0 and Adobe Acrobat 7.0:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\7.0\FeatureLockdown] “bUpdater”=dword:00000000 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\7.0\FeatureLockdown] “bUpdater”=dword:00000000
For Adobe Reader 8.0 and Adobe Acrobat 8.0
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\8.0\FeatureLockdown] “bUpdater”=dword:00000000 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\8.0\FeatureLockdown] “bUpdater”=dword:00000000
2. After you have created the *.reg, import this into your Windows Registry.
You can also created these entries manually to Windows registry by using regedit command in the Windows Run dialog.
Note: Disabling automatic updates may leave your computer running Adobe products vulnerable to security breaches. Use it at your own risk.
