Files2Text is a free utility using which you can rename the files in a notepad or your default text file viewer. Load this program and select the folder or location whose files you would like to rename.
Now the files under that folder are displayed in your default text file viewer, rename the file names in the text file viewer. When you close the text file the changes are displayed in the corresponding window that reflects the files that are going to be renamed.
This is pretty useful way of renaming of multiple files at once.
We tested this utility in Windows XP and Windows Vista.
