Ubuntu One is free file & folder syncing and sharing service using which you can share or sync files and folders across computers and other people that run Ubuntu Linux. This service run by Canonical which is the parent company behind Ubuntu Linux.

  • The are two plans that are available one is free plan which has got 2GB of storage and the other one is a paid plan that will cost you USD 10 per month.

    This service is only available for Ubuntu Linux 9.04 (Jaunty Jackalope) and earlier Ubuntu versions are not supported. Currently this service in Beta phase hence the signups are the public, to get your invite go here and provide your Launchpad details to receive the invite.

    System Requirements for Ubuntu One:

    • Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope and above.
    • Firefox or a similar standards-compliant web browser.
    • Broadband Internet connection.

    1. Humm… interesting & useful. 2 days ago enabled file sharing over my home network for my 2 systems [Ubuntu desktop/XP laptop] with samba.

      Btw does DropBox work good on Ubuntu? have used from XP to Mac but yet to test on Ubuntu.

    2. deb: Yes, Dropbox has worked perfectly on my Ubuntu 8.04. Fast syncing and no problems, not even a tiny one.

      I have been waiting for something like this from Canonical. I will switch over to Ubuntu One when they offer it. I am not running 9.04 so I cannot beta test it. :(
      Bring on the “ubuntu.com” email address as well.
